Contemporary Dance Workshop
On Monday 4th November we welcomed Kay Crook to TCS to work with our dance students.
Kay Crook is a freelance dance artist and director of Chhaya Collective, a contemporary dance company. Kay has toured the UK with Map Dance Company. She achieved a Masters in Dance Performance and a First Class BA Hons in Dance from The University of Chichester, receiving the ‘Lea Anderson Award for Choreographic Excellence’ and the ‘Valerie Briginshaw award for Dance writing and Academic Excellence’. To say we were very lucky to have Kay visit us, is an understatement!
We were able to give this experience to the students due to the support of The Helen Foundation.
The Helen Foundation is a charity which aims to support and bolster the participation of young people from the Teignbridge area in the creative and expressive arts. The Helen Foundation supported the workshop through the award of a grant which was then facilitated by DAISI (Devon Artists in Schools Initiative).
Kay worked with students from Year 9 and Year 10 for the entire day. Students took part in technique classes and then had a go at learning some choreography from the piece Khaos which is currently on tour.
The students were brilliant, they were totally up for the challenge and really pulled off some amazing performance work. Students continue to work on their pieces in lessons, and we are excited to be able to share with you the work on Thursday 12th December 2019 at our Dance Show.
Miss Moloney would like to extend a massive thank you to The Helen Foundation for providing this opportunity to our students. Without their support, they never would have experienced something like this.
